News from: Copitut’s Team Bravo @ Camp Perry, Ohio During the first week of August, Copicut’s team Bravo competed at Camp Perry Ohio in the high power rifle matches. The first three days were shot with temperatures over 100 degrees and on the fourth day the team shot in the rain. The courses of fire included ranges of 200, 300 and 600 yards, slow fire and rapid fire from prone, sitting and offhand positions. The team quickly learned how to dope Camp Perry’s tricky wind which was critical at 600 yards. Team Bravo’s coach, Kurt Palmer, was the teams high scorer, winning three gold medals and a bronze medal. He scored in the top five in the Garand Match and in the Vintage Rifle match out of a field of about 1,900 shooters. Team member Marty Casey won two bronze medals, team members George Tripp and Brent Clements each took a bronze, and team member Joe Biszko scored one point shy of a medal. The team spent about a year getting ready for the match and they all claim that it wasn’t enough time. Club membership secretary, Ray (Hay) Raposa, who is a veteran Camp Perry shooter, filled them in on what to expect and what to bring, which made the whole experience a lot easier. Anyone planning to shoot at Camp Perry for the first time would do well to talk to a shooter who has already made all the mistakes. The team all agreed that the first time was a learning experience and the next time will be real serious.
